Beauty on a Budget

In recent weeks the blue and white shopping bag has become almost as excitement inducing as the yellow and black or green and gold. The blue and white in question would be Boots! This week I’ve made a few purchases of products all under a tenner- serious bargains that aren’t missing an ounce of quality.

First up are the much blogged and hyped Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint. I started off with just one bottle- Papaya, a gorgeously creamy looking peachy pink with a hint of neon, it glided on to the nail like a dream and left a thick, gel manicure-esque finish. I then raced out and purchased both Greenberry (a turqoise/mint with the same hint of pastel-y neon) and Blueberry- a violet toned shade of blue with the same bright almost neon-ness. The quality is truly amazing and the wear time is roughly around five days before the ends tips start to fade a little- but no chipping! Result! I will mention now that I always use Seche Vite as a topcoat so that could well have aided the polish, however a few of my Chanel colours barely make it 3 days without chipping (again with Seche Vite) so the Barry M formula is definitely a new favourite and I’m intending on buying some more of the neutral shades.

Next up on the budget beauty wish list were the Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butters. I’ve seen these around on the shelves at Boots for a while and never paid them much attention, but after seeing one too many rave reviews to ignore on the beauty blogosphere I had to get my hands on them.

I bought two as Boots were doing a ‘buy one get the second half price’ deal. I always veer towards the peachier shades as, as you can probably tell from the blog- it’s my favourite colour and it really suits my olive skin tone. I chose Peach Parfait 025 and Tuti Fruti 015 to add to my already overloaded lipstick/balm/gloss/lacquer collection and I am already obsessed, the consistency reminds me of the Chanel Coco shine lipsticks (my holiday favourite is En Vogue) and the wear time is long lasting for a lip product so sheer and glossy. Tuti Fruti leaves a glossy finish with a hint of tangerine and warmth to make an outfit pop whereas Peach Parfait would make the perfect companion to a smokey eye on an evening out, or even with a slick of mascara for a spot of food shopping or gym work out. I could really see Miranda Kerr in Tuti Fruti (as well as being a style maven that woman has the most enviable collection of lipsticks ever- have you ever seen her with a bare lip? Thought not).My favourite part about the lip butters is that they have a gorgeous sheeny gloss that doesn’t catch my long locks like most glossy lip products do, a new every day favourite and I’ll definitely be popping back to Boots to try some more colours- few things beat the thrill of something cheap, good quality and pretty!
