What’s on her face? Joni Kamen

Meet Joni, one of my oldest friends. In fact, Joni and I first met when we were under 12 months old as we were both baby models! We then went to the same nursery and prep school and have stayed in touch pretty much ever since. Joni is an actress and model and is featured on Select’s Special bookings alongside Millie Mackintosh, Ashley Madekwe and Kelis amongst all people!

Last week we sat down in the glorious sunshine outside Pizza East on Portobello to chat all things beauty. Joni always has flawless skin and looks as though she hardly wears a scrap of makeup so I was desperate to find out what her secret was.

The first thing she tells me is that she has “no set beauty routine, as I have a mound of products at home” before handing me the cutest makeup bag I’ve ever seen to peruse. Napoleon primer (sadly only available in Australia) is her ultimate HG product and she says that the effect it gives sometimes renders foundation or tinted moisturiser pointless. A primer that means that you don’t need a base? I need! When she does wear foundation though she opts for No 7 Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation SPF15 as she favours a lighter base.

For a sunkissed effect, she uses Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Wash off Tan on her cheek bones – a seriously good beauty tip. Her latest buy is the L’Oreal Skin Perfection cream which at first comes out white and then adapts into a healthy skin tone shade. Think of it like a lighter BB cream, Joni is obsessed. “My daily lipstick is this mauve toned nude from Parisienne brand Leclerc – I’ve worn it down to nearly the end so need to get a new one ASAP”. Other makeup staples include the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer (a personal favourite of mine too), Maybelline Colossal mascara and the No 7 pop & glow chubby stick style blusher which makes Joni feel like “Marissa from the OC – you know that really super natural peachy glow from within?”. The only powder she’ll use is from MAC – the transparent Prep and Prime focus as “it just keeps everything in place and looking flawless”. I don’t know about you, but I’ve now added a fair few bits to my shopping list!

In terms of nails, she heads to Swanky’s on Portobello for a weekly file and paint and her latest obsession (and also on her nails in these photos) is Essie’s Geranium and orangey red that’s drool worthy. In fact, we went there for a quick mani pre lunch and I can vouch for their super speedy, cheap and glossy manicures!

I love that the majority of Joni’s makeup is drugstore and I now feel like a trip to Boots coming on!
